IN THE SUITCASE OF @CapucinePlume
All about suitcase. How and when to do it, how to organise it, how to make it as light as possible, how to avoid creasing your clothes? We ask these questions to a series of international globetrotters and tireless travelers.
By Béatrice Delamotte
In the same style as PLUME TRAVELS Média, THE TRAVEL CONCEPT was created by Capucine Gougenheim Geagea aka CAPUCINE PLUME.
Former lifestyle stylist-editor, journalist, Capucine Plume first created the webzine Plume Voyage and now its second chapter called PLUME TRAVELS, a new média to write about all possible travel styles, the world of simple luxury and creation: know-how, art, gastronomy, design, hotels, designer, cinema, music, photography, culture with the thread of the emotions and the light travels as a thread.
THE TRAVEL CONCEPT completes PLUME TRAVELS Média with items created for the brand such as the Parfum de Valise ®, the suitcase belts "M'as Tu Vue", the postcards "Love Check Book" to send out everywhere, and the travel pouches "Elsewhere else".
Are you more of a hand-carry, trunk, suitcase or no baggage person ?
A Rimowa suitcase. It’s soft and hard at the same time, and light too, so it is ideal for long journeys. I use the gros-grain "M'as Tu Vue" suitcase belt around the suitcase to differentiate it. They were created with Christophe d'Aboville from karate belts, so they are solid! Mine is black with a very light red net. And for weekends, a Tsumori Chisato weekend bag that I've had for a long time. When it leaves me, I will choose a 48 hours bag from the brand L’Uniform or the cabin bag, very pretty with its vintage look
Your suitcase transits rather by plane, boat, car, train, on your back or not at all?
All means are good for traveling! But a good book also takes me very far or a photo. Then it makes me want to leave.
What is fantastic about the trip is that there is a departure but always a return home! I love coming back to Paris after each trip!
What are the essentials for your wash-bag ?
All the travel-sized versions of my shampoo, creams and other gels. I also have samples of my Helmut Lang perfume and my usual creams in travel format: La Roche Posay, Joelle Ciocco, Clarins.
Clever TIPS
I recycle the contents: for example, I roll-up my iPod headphones and put them in a little metal “Hello Kitty” candy box, or in one of the little silk and cotton jewellery bags from Aurélie Bidermann. For hygiene reasons, shoes are always packed one by one in garment bags. And to avoid creasing delicate clothes, I fold them in sheets of tissue paper or I put them in one of the very thin plastic bags that you get from the dry cleaner.
Is your suitcase very organised or a bit of a jumble ?
I use little objects, like socks, scarves, and belts to fill the empty spots in my suitcase and I put socks inside of shoes to save space. I also wrap socks around the collars of shirts so that they don’t come undone. I separate things using dust bags, garment bags and wash-bags. I choose clothes that are easy to fold and don’t crease much, which usually means things in silk, jersey, and cotton. I always bring my silk lined blanket that I can wear around my neck or over my shoulders. When folded up it can be used as a soft pillow. On the plane, I wrap myself up in it instead of using the airline’s blanket.
What are the essentials for your suitcase ?
Pens, felt tips, lots of pencils for sketching, a small pocket book with a soft cover from Smythson or the passport format from Muji. A closed wallet to keep the cards I collect from shops and restaurants. When I return home, I stick them in a travel notebook, which I have separated into different places. My Leica digital camera, my iPhone. A USB stick. A rinse free hand wash. A travel scented candle, mint sweets and of course my "Parfum de Valise" , the travel perfume created by Capsule de Plume ® which serves to refresh my suitcase and leaves a pleasant scent of clean. A pocket charger, a wireless headphone, a bluetooth speaker Kreafunk or Vifa.
